Program Associate - Avahan, India AIDS Initiative

Position: Program Associate, Avahan

About Avahan:
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has committed $200 million to prevent the spread of HIV in India, through its India AIDS initiative, Avahan.

Avahan’s “business model” mandates focus for HIV prevention activities on those most at risk of contracting and spreading HIV. Prevention services are delivered via lead implementing grantees working at state or zonal level in the six highest-prevalence states of AP, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Manipur and Nagaland and along the nation’s highways.
Avahan employs a comprehensive, evidence-based prevention approach with a strong focus on participative development. Key planks of the state programs include community mobilization, behavior change communication and counseling, condom promotion programs, and treatment of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). The program also includes supporting initiatives in capacity building, research
and measurement of program and project impact.

Position Description:
Avahan is currently looking for a Program Associate to work closely with the Country Director.

Responsibilities:

•Reporting to the Director, Avahan, based at New Delhi, India.
•Work closely with the Director, the Advocacy Manager and other senior Program Associates.
•Support the Director with powerful, incisive analysis and recommendations based on data, facts and events related to HIV, general health and socio-economic both for internal decision making and for external consumption
•Assist the Director with managing and monitoring of progress and performance of various aspects of the program and of key grantees on a regular basis
•Take on other special projects (for example, evaluating expansions, new strategic approaches to prevention, etc)
•Assist the Director with management of key relationships including
o the Government of India
o other major international donors
o other major domestic and international players in the fields of health and HIV
o the Board and Technical Panel of Avahan
o media
o select corporate houses,.

Target Candidate Profile:
•MBA from a premier B school in India or abroad with between 5-7 post qualification years work experience
•Preferred areas of prior work experience include consulting, brand management, market research, large project / major account management
•Excellent written and oral communication skills
•Very strong analytical skills
•Demonstrated success in roles requiring logical, systematic thinking while managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
•Ability and willingness to travel
