JOB DESCRIPTION:
·This role is working as a developer within the Project Delivery Team
for Business Change.
·Developers are expected to contribute right across the Systems
Development Lifecycle. This includes responsibilities for Pre Evaluation
estimating, Systems/business analysis, High level design, Low level
design, Coding/testing, UAT support, Migration into Production and Post
production support during the Project warranty period.
·Developers are also responsible for producing appropriate
project/system documentation and, following successful implementation
into Production, handing over to the Support Team.
·Developers will normally work within a project team under the guidance
of the Project Manager.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities:
The primary objectives of the developer are to deliver quality systems
that:
1. Meet or exceed customer expectations when promised and within
cost estimates
2. Work effectively and efficiently within the current and planned
information technology infrastructure
3 Are inexpensive to maintain and cost-effective to enhance.

The development phase contains activities for requirements analysis,
design, coding, integration, testing, and installation and acceptance
related to software products.

·Assist with the establishment of logical order of events for conducting
system development that is controlled, measured, documented, and
ultimately improved.
·Requirements Definition contains a description of the existing
system(s), clearly defined functional, data, performance, security,
reliability, maintainability and life expectancy
requirements
·Functional Design contains a solution overview, solution detail, new
software, changes to existing systems, data structure changes, end user
error messages, design limitations & assumptions, operational
requirements
·Assist with physical database design to ensure highest performance of
the delivered applications.
·Deliver good quality code that adheres to the coding standards.
·Assist in regular project reviews & reporting stages to identify
issues/ opportunities/ status and requirements.
·Report development estimates to Project Manager
·Arrange and chair project meetings as and when required by the Project
Manager.
·Present (formally or informally) findings and potential solutions.
·Liase with colleagues to identify project gaps/overlaps.
·Liase with internal and external customers and BA's to ensure
requirements are fully understood prior to detailed design phase.
·Perform the role of Lead Developer within a project team if requested
by the Project Manager.
·Work with users, analysts, testers and other project team members
during the project lifecycle.
·Liase with 3rd Party (IBM/TUI Infotec) during implementation phases
·Assist with prototyping, system testing, UAT, project implementation.

Key Skills, Knowledge, Experience and Competencies: (i.e. those
(including qualifications) required to fulfil role:
·Essential – Minimum of at least 3 years solid and recent experience
working in an IBM 370 Assembler development environment.
Must have the ability to amend complex existing programs as well as
writing new programs. Must be comfortable with typical legacy system
deficiencies, e.g. `spaghetti code' and `design work arounds' etc.
Capable of making progress in a somewhat ambiguous environment where
detailed and up-to-date program and function specs are not always
available and nuances and priorities often change.
·Essential - Demonstrable experience of systems analysis taking business
requirements through to systems design, coding and implementation.
·Essential - Able to work as part of a team and have excellent verbal &
written communication skills in English.
·Highly Desirable – A good understanding of traditional
hierarchical/networked databases.
·Highly Desirable – Very good appreciation of VSAM data and good JCL
skills.
·Desirable – An understanding of REXX, SQL and Selcopy
·Desirable - A good understanding of Web technology concepts, layered
architecture platforms and integration with legacy systems.
·Desirable – An appreciation of Tour Operating

Scope of role:
·To work on enhancements to the system and surrounding infrastructure
within a project development environment.
·To provide support for the Production system if required.
·Liaison with internal and external customers, suppliers, and
consultants as and when required.
